Ryan Kinney

Chief Nuclear Engineer Black & Veatch

Ryan Kinney is Chief Nuclear Engineer at Black & Veatch, where he leads the engineering thinking behind the firm’s nuclear new-build and modernization work. With deep experience across nuclear plant design, quality programs and constructability, Ryan specializes in turning complex reactor designs into buildable, repeatable projects. He works closely with EPCs and owners on the decisions that make or break delivery, from NQA-1 qualification to judging when modular construction genuinely beats stick-built. Ryan is a strong advocate for grounding nuclear engineering in real project delivery, ensuring design maturity and constructability are solved before crews reach the field.

Seminars

Tuesday 19th January 2027
Workshop: Securing Commercial Growth and Contracts Through an Advanced NQA-1 Program
1:00 pm
  • Standing up an NQA-1 and N45.2.6 program that opens the door to EPC and owner contracts, not just compliance sign-off
  • Using the graded approach and commercial grade dedication to qualify more scope, faster, and win more work
  • Building the CWI, NDE and inspection capability that primes look for when they award nuclear scope
Thursday 21st January 2027
Case Study: Modularizing the Build: Finding the Goldilocks Zone
11:15 am
  • Judging when modular construction genuinely beats stick-built, and being honest about when it does not
  • Modularizing large-bore pipe, supports and skids where the productivity gains are real and repeatable
  • Matching module size and weight to the site’s actual rail, road, crane and barge access

Practical Takeaway: Leave with a practical test for when modular actually beats stick-built for a given scope, and how to size modules to the real transport and lift constraints of a site rather than to an idealized plan.
